Acute retropharyngeal abscess with torticollis and cervical subluxation—A case report and review of literature

Acute retropharyngeal abscess is an uncommon process that, when it does occur, is seen more often in children compared to adults. We describe a case of acute retropharyngeal abscess complicated by cervical subluxation and torticollis which is uncommon. We believe traditional X-ray Neck lateral view can still be used to diagnose acute retropharyngeal abscess in this era of CT scan. The patient was treated with Injection Co-amoxiclav and ceftriaxone for 7 days followed by 7 days of oral Co-amoxiclav therapy.
