RésuméIntroductionLa production scientifique étant devenue un des critères d’évaluation des hôpitaux et des facultés, la publication des thèses d’exercice est un enjeu. Le taux de publication global est aux alentours de 10 %, mais il n’existe pas d’étude portant exclusivement sur les thèses de pédiatrie.MéthodesLa recherche d’articles scientifiques issus d’un travail de thèse de pédiatrie a été effectuée sur Pubmed et Google Scholar pour les étudiants affectés en pédiatrie en 2003. Pour chaque article retenu, nous avons colligé la langue de publication, l’année de publication, le facteur d’impact de la revue.RésultatsPour les 172 étudiants affectés en pédiatrie en 2003, 48 (27,9 %) thèses ont été publiées, dont 29 % en français, dans un délai moyen de 2,21 ans avec un facteur d’impact moyen de 2,3. Il n’y avait pas d’association statistiquement significative entre le sexe, l’âge de soutenance ou la ville d’affectation.ConclusionPlus de 25 % des thèses de pédiatrie donnent lieu à publication, ce qui est à un taux comparable aux données nationales ou internationales disponibles.

SummaryIntroductionA medical dissertation is mandatory during medical studies in France. Often these dissertations are only considered an old-fashioned tradition but nonetheless require scientific research. According to recent publications, only 10% are secondarily published; however, there are no specific studies on pediatric medical dissertations.MethodFor all medical dissertations from students assigned to pediatrics in 2003, a subsequent publication was searched for on Pubmed and Google Scholar. When such a publication was found, data on the student's rank, the impact factor (IF), the language of publication, and the number of citations were retrieved.ResultsFor students assigned to pediatrics in 2003, 27.9% of the 172 medical theses were published, with a mean delay of 2.21 years. French was the language in 29%, and the mean IF was 2.3. There was no statistical association between student sex, age, university, size of the medical dissertation and publication.DiscussionMore than 25% of the pediatric medical dissertations are published. According to available data, this is a good rate but nonetheless still low. We found no clear factor associated with publication.ConclusionOnly a small fraction of pediatric medical dissertations are published.
