Pulmonary hypertension in chronic neonatal lung disease

SummaryPulmonary hypertension is an uncommon but significantly challenging complication of chronic neonatal lung disease [CNLD] as it occurs in the “new bronchopulmonary dysplasia [BPD]”. The presence of pulmonary hypertension may be sub-clinical and is often overlooked as it is not considered in all but the more severe cases of children with CNLD. Whilst the mainstays of therapy are supplemental oxygen and time and the majority of children will have resolution of their pulmonary hypertension with lung growth, the advent of newer pharmacological treatments has offered stability and perhaps a better prognosis for more severe cases of pulmonary hypertension.
