Controversias históricas de las hernias semilunares: Spiegel frente a Casseri, Klinkosch frente a Molliére

ResumenObjetivoAnalizar la historia de la hernia semilunar. Verificar quién describió en primer lugar la línea semilunar y utilizó el término «semilunar» para definir esta hernia ventral lateral de la pared abdominal.MétodoRevisión de la literatura. Análisis crítico de los artículos, tesis, libros y monografías publicadas, utilizando como palabras clave «hernia ventral», «lateral» o «semilunar».ResultadosSe exponen los datos biográficos y se analizan las aportaciones de cada autor a este tipo de hernias. Se corrigen y adaptan las citas bibliográficas a la normativa internacional. Casseri fue el primer cirujano en ilustrar la línea semilunar, antes de que Spiegel la describiera. Molliére, y no Klinkosch, fue el primer cirujano que utilizó el término «hernia semilunar».ConclusiónLa historia de las hernias laterales presenta errores y omisiones de autores importantes. Se resaltan las aportaciones de Casseri y Molliére, que han sido olvidadas en los textos de la especialidad.

ObjectiveTo analyze the history of semilunar abdominal wall hernias. To verify who described the semilunar line first and who coined the term.MethodReview of the literature. Critical analysis of published articles, books and monographs using the key words: ventral, lateral or semilunar abdominal wall hernia.ResultsBiographical data are presented and the contributions of each author to such hernias are analyzed. Citations were corrected and adapted according to the international standards. Casseri was the first surgeon to illustrate the semilunar line before Spiegel described it. Molliére was the first surgeon to use the term “semilunar Spiegel hernia”, not Klinkosch.ConclusionThe story of the lateral hernias has errors and omissions of important authors. We highlight the contributions of Casseri and Molliére that have been forgotten in abdominal wall surgery texts.
