Late-phase recovery in the cochlear lateral wall following severe degeneration by acute energy failure

► We analyzed the time course of the 3-NP induced inner ear energy failure rat model. ► After 2 months, ABR showed significant recovery at low frequency. ► Histology revealed recovery of the lateral wall and the regenerated fibrocytes. ► The cochlear lateral wall has capacity to recover after severe damage.
