Reversal of inhibition of putative dopaminergic neurons of the ventral tegmental area: Interaction of GABAB and D2 receptors

► Desensitization of GABAB receptors and dopamine D2 receptors was studied in the VTA. ► GABAB agonist baclofen produced long-lasting desensitization of GABAB receptors. ► Baclofen also produced desensitization of dopamine D2 receptors. ► D2 receptor desensitization also desensitized GABAB receptors. ► Reciprocal desensitization of GABAB & D2 receptors may play a role in therapeutics.
