The size of motoneurons of the gastrocnemius muscle in rats with diabetes

► We examine the anatomical alterations in motor nucleus of diabetic rats. ► The mean diameter of motoneurons was significantly smaller in diabetic animals. ► The mean number of labeled motoneurons was significantly less in diabetic rats. ► Most of the decrease of motoneurons occurred among the smaller gamma-motoneurons.
