► We investigate the stress-reducing effects of coffee volatiles in mice. ► Coffee volatiles increased the access to the open arms in the elevated plus-maze. ► Coffee volatiles prolonged the pentobarbital-induced sleep time. ► We conclude that coffee volatiles have anti-anxiety-like effects in mice.
