The effect of DISC1 on regional gray matter density of schizophrenia in Han Chinese population

► The effect of DISC1 on gray matter was examined with magnetic resonance imaging. ► Risk allele increased gray matter density in parahippocampal gyrus of schizophrenia. ► Risk allele increased gray matter density in orbitofrontal cortex of schizophrenia. ► The effects in schizophrenia were opposite to those in healthy controls. ► DISC1 confers risk to schizophrenia by affecting gray matter in these brain regions.
