Reduced ictogenic potential of 4-aminopyridine in the hippocampal region in the pilocarpine model of epilepsy

► 4-Aminopyridine (4-AP) is a potent convulsant. ► We investigated the ictogenic potential of 4-AP in brain slices of pilocarpine treated rats. ► Incidence of seizure like events was reduced in the latent period and in chronic epileptic animals. ► Alterations of potassium channels may contribute to the reduced seizure susceptibility.
