A SNP site in pri-miR-124 changes mature miR-124 expression but no contribution to Alzheimer's disease in a Mongolian population

► We tested an almost 400 bp region of pri-miR124 gene in Mongolia AD population. ► We found an identified SNP site existed and could change the predicted structure of pri-miR124. ► We identified this site was a functional site and could alter the expression of mature miR-124. ► Our study cannot illustrate the correlation between this site and high incidence of AD.
