Central AMP-activated protein kinase affects sympathetic nerve activity in rats

► A present study examined the role of AMPK in regulation of sympathetic nerve tones. ► Central injection of AICAR or compound C increased sympathetic nerve activities in rats. ► Effects of leptin on sympathetic excitation were suppressed in rats pre-treated with AICAR or compound C. ► We concluded that the AMPK may be involved in the sympathetic activation of adrenal gland and kidney.
