Subventricular zone in motor neuron disease with frontotemporal dementia

► We studied subventricular zone (SVZ) in a patient with (FTD-ALS) and a control. ► GAP and ribbon layer are different in FTD-ALS, cells in these layers are astrocytes. ► Ki-67, PCNA, Histone immunohistochemistry showed proliferation in the ribbon layer. ► PSA-NCAM for migrating cells and Tuj-1 for immature neurons increased in FTD-ALS. ► An increased proliferation in SVZ in FTD-ALS is suggested.
