▶ Domoic acid is an excitotoxin that induces COX2 expression in the brain. ▶ Properly dosed COX2 inhibitors protect sensitive CA1 and CA3 neurons from excitotoxicity. ▶ Properly dosed COX2 inhibitors provide protection against lethality of excitotoxicity. ▶ Improper dosing of COX2 inhibitors can aggravate domoic acid excitotoxicity.
