A model-based analysis of the “combined-stimulation advantage”

► Combining lowpass-filtered and vocoded signals improves speech-recognition performance. ► This effect is observed under a wide variety of stimulation conditions. ► It is larger than predicted by a model combining independent identification decisions. ► Gaussian-SDT models can explain the effect without involving cross-modal interactions.
