► We assessed the influence of deafness on the development of synapses and neurons of the LSO. ► We implemented a mathematical model of the auditory brainstem circuitry in deafness mice. ► LSO neurons in deafness mice showed greater Ih. ► Inhibitory synapses in the LSO appear to develop normally in deafness mice. ► Our model shows that basic interaural computations could be performed in deafness mice.
