Multi-temporal assessment of land sensitivity to desertification in a fragile agro-ecosystem: Environmental indicators

► We estimated three environmental indices over a newly reclaimed area in Egypt. ► We examined environmental indicators of soil, climate, vegetation, water, and management in two time series (1984 and 2008). ► We accounted for the local characteristics to increase the reliability of the results. ► The study area is highly susceptible to degradation. ► Proper management is needed to overcome deterioration and achieve sustainability.
