Global climate change policy issued by theUnited Nations Framework Conventionon Climate Change (UNFCCC) with the scheme Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) will not only involve the community and government at national level, but more specifically will touch people and government in local level. This article examines the readiness of local governments and communities both at policy and institutional levels. This study applies qualitative research methods conducted in three regencies in West Sumatra Indonesia, namely Pesisir Selatan, Mentawai Islands and South Solok. The research result shows that West Sumatera has potential to adopt and implement REDD++ scheme. However, there is insufficient readiness concerning government policy, institutions and people around. As conclusion, West Sumatera still needs to prepare those aspects comprehensively.
