Paleoenvironmental evolution of the East Carpathian foredeep during the late Miocene-early Pliocene (Dacian Basin; Romania)

► We present new biostratigraphic data from the late Miocene- Early Pliocene sediments of the Dacian Basin (Romania). ► Biostratigraphic data are incorporated into magnetostratigraphic time frame. ► The main Pontian ostracod species are presented. ► We reconstructed the paleogeographic and paleoenvironmental evolution of East Carpathian foredeep during the Messinian. ► A major transgression in the base of Pontian is documented.
