A combined approach using allozymes and volatiles for the characterization of Tunisian Thymbra capitata (L.) Cav. (Lamiaceae)

► 39 terpenoids and 8 isozymes are used for the characterization of 12 natural Tunisian Thymbra capitata populations. ► Essential oil composition varied among populations. ► A high genetic diversity within and among population was revealed by isozymes. ► The population structure performed on the two sets of data was similar to that shown using isozymes. ► Conservation strategies should take into account genetic diversity and chemical variation levels.
