Inclusion of the Cape genus Anisothrix in the Namibian-centred genus Pentatrichia (Asteraceae, Gnaphalieae) based on a molecular phylogenetic analysis

► A fully resolved phylogenetic hypothesis found Pentatrichia species and subspecies to be reciprocally monophyletic. ► Sister relationship between P. rehmii subsp. avasmontana and P. rehmii subsp. rehmii confirmed the results of a previous study. ► Anisothrix synonymised with Pentatrichia and two new combinations made. ► A key to expanded morphological concept of Pentatrichia was constructed.
