Phytoplankton growth and microzooplankton grazing in the continental shelf area of northeastern South China Sea after Typhoon Fengshen

► Microzooplankton grazing and phytoplankton growth were explored after the passage of typhoon. ► Negative phytoplankton growth rate was observed and explained. ► Microzooplankton grazing still existed under the condition of negative phytoplankton growth. ► Microzooplankton exerted similar grazing rate on phytoplankton in different size-fractionations. ► Possible interaction between phytoplankton and microzooplankton was discussed.
