► Le Danois Bank is a Marine Protected Area at the southern Bay of Biscay. ► Hydrography and currents are analysed to describe the dynamics of the bank. ► Summit near-bottom records are consistent with anticyclonic flow. ► Tide-topography interaction and temporary Taylor cap formation cause the mean flow. ► Bank to continental shelf area is highly influenced by along-slope currents.
