The Bransfield current system

► We describe mesoscale structures that defines the Bransfield Current System.► Observations/laboratory experiment shows that the Bransfield Current behaves as gravity current. ► A system of anticyclonic eddies no previously observed is reported. ► We describe a tongue of Circumpolar Deep Water along South Shetlands Islands Slope. ► A new circulation scheme for the Central Basin of the Bransfield Strait is proposed.
