Stoloniferous shoot protoplast, an efficient cell system in potato for somatic cell genetic manipulations

▶ Somatic hybridization in potato using mesophyll protoplasts is still challenging. ▶ Stoloniferous shoot protoplasts represent an ideal cell system in potato. ▶ They are easy to isolate from stoloniferous shoots induced in vitro. ▶ This highly morphogenic cell system can be used for somatic hybridization. ▶ It may also be an ideal transient expression system for fundamental studies.
