Scratch circles associated with the large foraminifer Bathysiphon from deep-sea turbiditic sediments of the Pagliaro Formation (Palaeocene), Northern Apennines, Italy

► Two types of scratch circles occur in Palaeocene turbidites of the Pagliaro Formation. ► They are produced by broken tests of the large tubular foraminifer Bathysiphon. ► Tests stood vertically in life position in mud but current broken them. ► Broken but articulated tests were rotated by current and scratched the sea floor.
