A coupled low order dynamo/turbulent shell model for geomagnetic field variations and reversals

► We couple a low order αω dynamo model to a shell model of turbulence. ► The field fluctuations obtained from this model exhibit lognormal-like statistics. ► In this sense, the model fluctuations are comparable to paleomagnetic fluctuations. ► We describe the dynamics behind our coupled model, and implications for the Earth.
