The calcareous nannofossil Sollasites falklandensis (Coccolithophyceae) and its biostratigraphic and palaeoceanographic importance in the Albian of the Austral Basin, Argentina

► S. falklandensis has been recorded at Lower-Middle Albian Austral Basin. ► Its biostratigraphic and paleoceanographic importance are evaluated. ► Late Aptian Tethyan origin and Albian migration to high-latitudes is proposed. ► It is considered an important marker species for austral high-latitudes.
