This article deals with the theoretical and experimental behavior of highly contrasted stratified (HCS) plates. It follows the paper Boutin and Viverge (2016) where a synthetic formulation describing HCS plates made of two stiff layers has been proposed. New theoretical results for describing N-stiff layers HCS viscoelastic plates, considering both the out-of-plane and in-plane responses are derived using a multi-scale asymptotic approach. The introduced method enables (i) to define precisely the N+1 kinematic descriptors and their dual in terms of force and momentum, (ii) to determine the coupled and uncoupled mechanisms, and (iii) to establish the constitutive laws and the balance equations. Some analytical solutions of the kinematic and static fields under basic loads are established. The theory is validated with experiments conducted on two- and three-layers laminated glass with viscoelastic PVB interlayers. The theoretical result stating that the principle of time-temperature superposition of the PVB also applies, with the same time factor to the laminated glass, is observed experimentally. In addition, bending creep tests evidence the theoretically predicted transition from the (quasi-) monolithic behavior at short time to the (quasi-) bi-layers behavior at long time. The theoretical results describing the influence of both the temperature and frequency are also in good agreement with the experimental data.
