• Ga/SSZ-13 is more active in dehydrogenation of ethane than Ga/ZSM-5.
• Ga/SSZ-13 had superior selectivity of ethylene as compared with Ga/ZSM-5.
• The excellent catalytic performance may come from SSZ-13's smaller pore size.
• The stability of Ga/SSZ-13 is lower than that of Ga/HZSM-5.
Dehydrogenation of ethane to ethylene in the presence of CO2 was investigated over gallium oxide supported on HSSZ-13 with different Si/Al ratios. These catalysts exhibited higher activity as well as higher selectivity in comparison to HZSM-5 supported ones. 34% ethane conversion with 86.9% selectivity to ethylene could be obtained. The enhanced catalytic performance of Ga2O3/HSSZ-13 can be attributed to unique pore geometry of SSZ-13 support. However, the stability is not as good as that of Ga2O3/HZSM-5, owing to easy coking in channel with smaller pore-opening size.
