Twisting electrospun nanofiber fine strips into functional sutures for sustained co-delivery of gentamicin and silver

We report a twisting method for the fabrication of nanofiber-based sutures capable of simultaneous delivery of both silver and gentamicin in a sustained manner for prevention of surgical site infections. We also demonstrated that the gentamicin and silver co-encapsulated nanofiber sutures were able to kill bacteria much more effectively than gentamicin or silver alone loaded PCL nanofiber sutures.136
