Dynamic misspecification in the environmental Kuznets curve: Evidence from CO2 and SO2 emissions in the United Kingdom

► We model the environmental Kuznets curve using UK data for CO2 and SO2. ► Non-linear threshold cointegration and error correction techniques are used. ► The results suggest that disequilibrium in emissions is corrected asymmetrically. ► We find support for the inverse-U shaped relationship between emissions and GDP. ► Technological change also has a significant effect on emissions.
