In this work, we studied the effect of CO2/water mixture on the hydrocracking of anthracene using the NiFe–HZSM-5 catalyst. The reaction time, the temperature, and the type of hydrogen sources were investigated. The properties of the HZSM-5 treated by CO2/water mixture were compared with those of the virgin HZSM-5. It was demonstrated that CO2/water could enhanced the yield of ethyl biphenyl (EB) considerably at suitable condition because CO2/water mixture could change the properties of the HZSM-5. In addition, the special properties of supercritical CO2/water medium also enhanced the yield of EB.
CO2/water can modify the properties of the HZSM-5 and improve selective hydrocracking of anthracene into ethyl biphenyl with low hydrogen consumption.Figure optionsDownload as PowerPoint slideHighlights
► CO2/water mixture can modify the properties of HZSM-5.
► Large pore size and more mesoporosities of HZSM-5 enhance the hydrocracking.
► Supercritical CO2/water mixture enhances the hydrocracking of anthracene.
