Rent sharing as a driver of the glass ceiling effect

► We analyse the impact of rent-sharing along the wage distribution for men and women. ► We use a unique employer-employee database and IV quantile fixed effects regressions. ► We control for collective bargaining, unobserved heterogeneity and endogeneity. ► We find that the glass ceiling effect can be explained by rent-sharing. ► Monopsonistic features, due to women's lower mobility, might play a role.
