Crime rates and labor market opportunities in the Philippines: 1970-2008

► We model the link between crime and labor market in a developing country setting. ► We examine the effect of labor market and deterrence variables on crime rate. ► Wage rate and per capita income significantly affect the crime rate over the sample. ► The results are not affected by the type of data used. ► The findings are consistent with those of past studies.
