The impact of regulation on pricing behavior in the Spanish electricity market (2002-2005)

► We test the hypothesis of profit-maximizing generators in the Spanish electricity market for the period 2002-2005. ► We find that the actual prices are below profit-maximizing ones. ► We conclude that regulatory regime was after this behavior, encouraging larger firms to behave more competitively.
