Export behavior of Italian food firms: Does product quality matter?

► Using firm-level data we investigate the export behavior of Italian food firms. ► We focus on the relationship between TFP, product quality and exports across destinations. ► The elasticity of export intensity to quality is increasing in the income of destinations. ► We find also support to the Alchian and Allen effect on 'shipping the good apples out'.
