Exchange rate misalignment and inflation rate persistence: Evidence from Latin American countries

► The exchange rate of high-inflation countries against the US dollar is estimated. ► We test whether inflation persistent coincides with exchange rate movements. ► We use of econometric techniques which allow breaks and nonlinear modelling. ► The currency status cannot alone explain the behaviour of the inflation rate. ► Inflation persistence is explained by the depreciating trend of the home currency.
