Stock repurchases and treasury share sales: Do they stabilize price and enhance liquidity?

► We study the impact of purchases and sales of own shares on stock liquidity and volatility. ► The study is conducted using data on own-share transactions and approvals of repurchase programs. ► We find that trading in own shares boosts stock liquidity and decreases volatility.
