Structural reactors with metallic fillers made of wire mesh displaying highly enhanced transport properties are regarded as an interesting alternative for monolithic converters. They have been demonstrated to improve the efficiency of the VOC combustion, considerably decreasing the converter length. The cobalt oxide catalyst was deposited on the precalcined fillers (chromium–aluminium steel meshes and sheets) using a non-equilibrium plasma (NEP) technique. The catalysts obtained under various plasma conditions were characterised by XPS and tested in n-hexane oxidation in gradientless stirred jet reactor. The most efficient catalyst was cobalt spinel which was highly dispersed on the carrier prepared in the presence of oxygen in plasma and deposited on wire meshes.
