Heteropolyacids as heterogeneous and recyclable catalysts for the synthesis of benzimidazoles

Synthesis of benzimidazoles from the condensation of phenylenediamine(o-PDA) and acyl chlorides in the presence of a catalytic amount of various heteropolyacids (HPAs) is reported.
