Efficient synthesis of 3-alkyl indoles through regioselective ring opening of epoxides catalyzed by sulfated zirconia

Sulfated zirconia has been found to be an efficient catalyst for ring-opening of epoxides with nitrogen heterocycles such as indoles, pyrroles and imidazoles to afford the corresponding Friedel–Crafts alkylated derivatives in high yields and with high regioselectivity.
