Synthesis of ZnO/CdSe hierarchical heterostructure with improved visible photocatalytic efficiency

► ZnO/CdSe heterostructure was synthesized via a facile aqueous reaction. ► CdSe nanoparticles are dispersed on the nanoplates of ZnO microspheres. ► Enhanced photocatalytic efficiency under visible light region was obtained compared to pure ZnO.
