Nanocone formation on ion-bombarded InP surfaces

- Ar+ ion bombardment of InP at normal incidence has been studied.
- The surface topography was examined by scanning electron microscopy.
- Regular arrays of nanocones are formed under ion irradiation.
- Individual nanocones show protrusion at outer periphery.
- Growth of adatom islands may lead to 3D structures.
