Selective adsorption of cationic dyes by UiO-66-NH2

- Two Zr(IV)-based MOFs can remove cationic dyes more effectively than anionic dyes.
- UiO-66 has higher selectivity for cationic dyes after modification with NH2.
- The mechanism for adsorption selectivity is rationally proposed.
