Solution synthesis and optimization of ZnO nanowindmills

► We synthesized a novel windmill-like ZnO structure. ► The as-synthesized ZnO nanowindmill has a central trunk of nanorod and six symmetrical nanorods grown epitaxially on the surface of the ZnO trunk. ► The as-obtained ZnO nanowindmills have strong ultraviolet emission at room temperature.
