► We propose a model for the hydrophobic recovery of plasma-treated polymers. ► The model takes into account different mechanisms involved in hydrophobic recovery. ► A good agreement between the proposed model and the experimental data is achieved. ► The proposed model can be used in the industries where plasma treatment is used.
