Effect of UV irradiation on wear protection of TiO2 and Ni-doped TiO2 coatings

► TiO2 and Ni-doped TiO2 films with good wear protection are prepared by sol-gel technology. ► UV illumination resumes the hydrophobicility of both TiO2 and Ni-doped TiO2 films. ► UV illumination greatly damage wear protection properties of both TiO2 and Ni-doped TiO2 films.
