Theoretical study on the reaction mechanisms of HXCN (XÂ =Â 1,2) with nitrate radical

► The reactions of HCN and H2CN with NO3 radical have been investigated. ► A barrierless pathway of the reaction of H2CN with NO3 is found. ► It can be used to explain the disappearance of NO3 during the decomposition of RDX.
