Quantitative local structure determination of R,R-tartaric acid on Cu(110): Monotartrate and bitartrate phases

► Cu(110) exposed to R,R-tartaric acid. ► Monotartrate and bitartrate phases as previously reported were identified. ► O 1s PhD used to determine local adsorption structure of both phases. ► monotartrate bonds with carboxylate O atoms in local off-atop sites. ► Bitartrate has similar local O site for both carboxylate species.
